Black & Decker 8-Cup Stainless Steel Coffeemaker Customer Review: Such a disappointment
I love coffee. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those “home-roast/burr grinder/specialty brew” people (not that there’s anything wrong with that!). What I am is someone who really dearly loves waking up to a pot of hot, waiting coffee. I also like to leisurely enjoy my coffee on a long weekend morning.
I bought this pot at Target when my previous coffee pot mysteriously died. This one had that trusty Black & Decker name, it had a carafe to keep the coffee hot, and it was programmable. Sold!
Now that I have had (and been using) this appliance for a few weeks, I am awash in leaked coffee and buyer’s remorse. If I hadn’t been such a ninny to trust the Black & Decker brand (thereby throwing out the packaging) I would RETURN it. Twice, if I could, I hate it so much. It gets two stars because, well, it DOES make coffee.
Issues:
- Do not fill haphazardly and certainly don’t OVERfill. Overflow hole in the back of the unit will send water cascading over your countertops.
- It leaks. The connection between the black plastic handle/ring (the part that the lid screws into) seeps coffee. Yes, from the SIDE of the carafe. It doesn’t SEEM like any coffee should be in that area on the inside, but there it is. You end up with a puddle of coffee UNDER the carafe.
- You can’t keep it warm longer than the carafe thinks you should. Who hasn’t turned the coffee maker off and then back on again to re-start the two hour heating element cycle? In this one, the coffee brews into the thermal carafe, and that’s the end of that. There is no heating element below the carafe. At least, if there is, it’s broken on mine right out of the box.
- Size matters. It’s only an 8 cup pot, as opposed to 10 or 12.
And that’s all I have to say about that.
